The process and outcomes of the workshop were displayed in the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden as part of the existing collection exhibition.
We are surrounded by metals
every day.
But what are the stories behind this shimmering material How was iron discovered, extracted, processed and how do
we deal with it in the present
and in the future?
During the workshop “Casting Journeys” led by Johanna Seelemann, the participants explored these questions. Within
a week, with the support of
the blacksmith Heinrich Ehnert, a smelting furnace was
built to smelt iron ore from the Dresden area. The material
thus obtained was further processed in the forge.
In connection with the collection of the Kunstgewerbemuseum SKD, all participants were able to forge an individual spoon, which was exhibited in the museum as
part of the process.
The participants were Luise Arnold, Deborah Egger, Ella Einhell, Leonie Hochstrasser, Hannah Kuhlmann, Seo Myeonga, Wu Shuang, Gigi Totaro and myself.
